Mos Def's album was supposed to drop on December 9 but after a slight delay, it's been released exclusively on TIDAL today. December 99th is an alternative hip hop collaborative album with Chicago producer Ferrari Sheppard. The two met in Ethiopia in 2013 and started working on art projects together. Sheppard, who was working as a journalist at the time, decided to pursue a career in music.
The project includes 10 ten tracks. The previously released "NAW," "Hymn," "Tall Trees," "Local Time," and "Seaside Panic," are on their self-titled debut album. As usual with Mos, the lyrics contain commentaries on the political and social atmosphere in the United States. Listen to Yasiin below.
