A young Massachusetts woman is dead after she got pinned between two trucks while in an island town in Maine, authorities announced Tuesday.

Alyssa Fluet, 21, of Methuen, was killed in a motor vehicle crash that happened shortly before 8:05 p.m. Monday in Long Island, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said Fluet was trying to stop a 1998 Ford Ranger pickup truck from moving when it began to roll from a parked position in the area of 1106 Island Ave. She was then pinned when the truck struck a 2004 Ford Ranger pickup.

The sheriff’s office said investigators believe motor vehicle defects were a contributing factor in the deadly incident. Both Ford Ranger trucks involved in the collision were unoccupied at the time.

Methuen city officials announced Tuesday that Fluet is the daughter of Methuen Fire Department Assistant Chief Mike Fluet and his wife, Diane.

Alyssa Fluet was a graduate of Methuen High School and a student at Salem State University.

“Alyssa had a love of the theater, performing and spreading her cheerful and creative personality to friends and family. This outgoing daughter of Methuen brought joy to all who crossed her path,” reads a statement on the city’s Facebook page. “We join loving relatives and countless friends in sending prayers, condolences and support to Mike, Diane, and their daughter, Abigail.”

“The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office would like to express its condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Fluet,” reads a Facebook post from Maine authorities.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said the incident remains under investigation.
