During a February 2020 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Wade opened about his daughter Zaya coming out as transgender, noting that he takes his “roles and responsibilities” as her father “very seriously.”

He added that he and his wife, Gabrielle Union, who was also present for the interview, make an effort to “figure out as much information as we can to make sure that we give our child the best opportunity to be her best self.”
