A security guard was shot outside Drake’s home in Toronto early this morning, amid the rapper’s ongoing beef with Kendrick Lamar. Police confirmed at a press conference that a security guard was taken to the hospital in “serious condition” after originally reporting a shooting at 2:09 a.m. on May 7. The guard is still in the hospital. The suspect or suspects reportedly fled the scene, though police have not yet released a description. Inspector Paul Krawczyk did not comment on a motive and would not say whether Toronto police were in contact with U.S. police. Krawczyk said Drake’s team is cooperating, adding, “This is no different than any other investigation.”
The shooting occurred as Drake is embroiled in a feud with Kendrick Lamar, Metro Boomin, and, by proxy, Future. The feud was sparked by Lamar dissing Drake on the trio’s No. 1 hit “Like That.” The two have volleyed tracks back and forth for weeks now, the latest entry being Drake’s “The Heart Part 6” on May 5. Lamar’s most recent track, “Not Like Us,” used a Google Maps image of Drake’s house with a number of sex-offender markers as the cover art, referencing Lamar’s allegations of pedophilia and sexual misconduct against Drake and his team.
