What a monster of a role. Lily Rabe is set to play real-life serial killer Aileen Wuornos on American Horror Story: Hotel, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Rabe, 33, will appear in the Halloween episodes in the upcoming fifth season. “I’m directing it because I love the script so much, when we finished it I said, ‘I can’t give this to anybody else.’ Lily Rabe is coming to that episode,” creator Ryan Murphy told the L.A. Times. “And she’s playing Aileen Wuornos, which is really fun and bizarre.”
He added: “I don’t want to give too much away but I will tell you that she’s at the centerpiece of that, and that’s who she’s playing.”
Charlize Theron won an Oscar for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for her portrayal of Wuornos in the 2003 drama Monster. One of the few known serial killers, Wuornos killed seven men between 1989 and 1990 in Florida and claimed she did it in self-defense. She was sentenced to death and died by lethal injection in October 2002.
