In 2005, American actress, Sally Fields was diagnosed with osteoporosis, the loss of bone density which is experienced by most women due to old age. She then took it upon herself to learn everything she could about the condition and even signed on as a spokesperson for the prescription medication, Boniva.
However, she announced that she didn’t know what could have possibly caused the illness because she did everything as healthy as possible.
“I had always eaten right, I had always exercised and I had always taken calcium. I tried to be a good girl all the way down the line, but it was going to get me,” she shared.
“Eight percent of 10 million Americans affected by osteoporosis are women. An additional 34 million Americans are at risk for this disease and, as our popular ages, osteoporosis will only become a greater public health threat,” President and CEO of the Society for Women’s Health Research, Phyllis Greenberger said.
