During the 2018 Senior Bowl, Leonard recorded a game-high 14 combined tackles (5 solo) as part of Bill O’Brien’s North team that defeated the South 45–16.
Leonard played college football at South Carolina State and was drafted in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts.
The Indianapolis Colts selected Leonard in the second round with the 36th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. He was the sixth linebacker taken in the draft.

On August 8, 2021, Leonard signed a five-year, $99.25 million contract including a $52.5 million guaranteed extension with the Indianapolis Colts.
The contract mentioned above made Leomard the highest-paid outside linebacker in the National Football League (NFL)
In the 2022 season, Leonard missed the first three weeks while recovering from offseason back surgery.
He returned in Week four (4), and suffered a concussion and broken nose in the game, missing the next three (3) games
Leonard suffered a setback in his back injury leading up to Week 10 and was placed on injured reserve on November 12, 2022, ending his season
In November 2023, the veteran linebacker hit the headlines after he disclosed on Tuesday, November 21 that the Indianapolis Colts have waived him.
Leonard issued a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter, confirming his departure and thanking Colts fans.

The reasoning behind the move is unclear, though Leonard had displayed some frustration over his playing role earlier this month.
Leonard has appeared in nine games this year, missing Indianapolis’ Week 5 victory over the Tennessee Titans due to a groin injury.
